ĦĦĦĦThe direct economic hinterland of Yantai Port mainly consists of Yantai, Weihai, Weifang and the north of Zibo. The direct hinterland enjoys good natural conditions and witnesses a fast economic growth. The container traffic produced in this area includes: (i) marine product; (ii) fruit; (iii) vegetable; (iv) vermicelli; (v) marble; (vi) wine; and (vii) the light industries and manufacturing industries invested by companies of South Korea and Japan. The bulk cargo resources include the products of cement, oil processing, metal smelting and chemical industries in this area.
ĦĦĦĦ Along with the development of the transportation network around Yantai Port as well as the construction of port facilities, the indirect hinterland has been greatly expanded to the other regions of Shandong, Shanxi, Hebei, Henai, Beijing and Tianjin. The hinterland is endowed with rich resources and developed industries, so that there are plenty of cargo traffic. Cargos like coal, cement, fertilizer, grain and iron ore can be directly delivered to Yantai Port through railway and road. The Port overlooks the heavy industrial base in the Northeast of China, as well as South Korea and Japan across the sea. Yantai Port has quite good conditions in terms of water depth, and this has enabled it to explore a wide indirect hinterland. In recent years, Yantai Port has canvassed a large amount of cargo traffic from the hinterland in the fields of passenger, Ro-Ro, container cargo of foreign trade. The traffic is still growing and enjoys a promising perspective.
