The general target set up for Yantai Port is to be one of the large-sized modern ports in Northeast Asia which is equipped with multi-function and can play an important role in promoting the economic and social development of Yantai as well as its hinterland. On the ground of its nature and effect, Yantai Port will establish itself into:

　　•  a modern pivotal port in the coastal area of China

　　•  a key port for handling and transshipment of break bulk cargo

　　•  a key port oriented for shipping business with ports in South Korea and Japan

　　•  a pivotal port for domestic container shipping business on the rim of Bohai Sea

　　•  the Ro-Ro transportation center for passenger and cargo on Bohai Strait

　　During the 11 th Five-year Plan of the Nation, Yantai Port will accelerate its pace in business structure adjustment and port construction, further increase the comprehensive capacity of the port, and achieve a fast growth in port throughput especially in container traffic with a higher developing rate than the average level of the ports all over the country.

　　The detailed development targets as of 2010 are showed as follows:

　　•  the overall port throughput is to be 100 million tons, with an average annual growth rate of 24% during the 11 th Five-year Plan;

　　•  the container traffic is to be 2 million TEU, with an average annual growth rate of 29.5% during the 11 th Five-year Plan; and

　　•  the passenger traffic is to be 5.2 million person-times, , with an average annual growth rate of 3.4% during the 11 th Five-year Plan.
